Marriage - anthony -

Marriage
Marriages for anyone are a promise and forever. However, in my opinion, there are pros and cons.
On the plus side, first at all, Marriages are taking care of each other. If you are sick, you spouse will make you food to eat.
A second point is that you are not being alone. For example, if you had children you would not be alone when you are old.
Last, but not least, another pro, in marriage is that you must share money together in order that you could live comfortably. So, you will have a joint back account. In this way, the partners can have a better income.
On the minus side, marriages mean a responsibility to care for your spouse all your life. You have to look after you spouse who is sick. You may have money when you have a child.
Another point is that in a marriage will have no freedom. In other words, it means you can’t go out freely to chat with friends. You can’t spend lot of money on large purchasing items. Sometimes, you or your spouse is checking each other, so it is like a prison.
A final con and very important point is that you might hate each other. For example, your spouse doesn’t trust you when you slept in someone’s house.
After reviewing the pros and cons I believe marriage is good. I believe that pros of a joint income, caring for each other, and not being alone are worth being married.

A Racing Experience - anthony -

A Racing Experience
One day, I was thinking about the time when I was driving in Australia. I was not only a careless driver, but I was also a stupid person. Everyone, who included my friends, was saying that I must be a crazy driver. While I was driving my car, I might cause a lot of problems. I crashed my car on someone’s car accidentally. Later, I attempted not to turn on the front lights in my car when I was driving in the parking-lot at night; therefore, I ripped off my can bumper. Fortunately, there was no police around me. I then remembered one of my friends, whom was playing car games with me all the time, suggested we should have a real racing car on the street. However, I was a nude, as we started I lost him at the second corner. You may see me I was a person who was only well-spoken, thus I could not drive as a professional driver. Then he went home by himself happily and strangely. Even though I had not got any self –confident, I drove in the freeway. I traveled with three passengers, whom were from my Christian church in Australia. They were two girls and one boy. The two girls were sleeping in my back seats but the boy was begging me to driver fast with high speed, as high as I could. I constantly stepped my gas pedal harder so that I could speed up. This moment I was illegally driving which look as if I was drunk.
I was so lucky that I didn’t catch any penalty for speeding up to two hundred kilometers. I was extremely terrified and after that I won’t drive like that. Now I become calm and not to try this silly things again. As soon as, my dad knew I had a terrible experience, he might not give me to drive a car again.

presentation - Anthony -

Today, Waleed and I will be presenting the life of Miles Gilbert Horton, better known to the public as “Tim Horton”. Before doing our research Waleed and I only knew about the donuts, Tim Horton was a great hockey player before the donut chain.

Tim Horton was born in Cochrane, Ontario on January 12, 1930. He was named after his two grandparents but his mother preferred to call him “Tim”. He started playing hockey while researching a little found Tim Horton’s childhood. When he was young, the Toronto Maple Leaf scouted Tim and in 1947 he moved to Toronto to play junior hockey and go to school at St. Michael’s college. He was a star defenseman on the team and was chosen best defenseman in the Ontario Hockey Association in 1948 – 49. Tim was known as a strong player. After a few years, on March 26, 1950, Time played his first game for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Tim Horton was not a star on the Maple Leaf team, in 1951 to 52 season, Tim only played four games. The following year he became a full time member. Tim Horton got injured and broken his leg in a game against the New York Rangers, and Tim was checked by Bill Gadsby. This injury makes him missing almost a full season. There was doubt that he would play hockey anymore. He would have injuries throughout his career. However, he died return to play and the team did very well.

The team won 4 Stanley Cups during 1962, 63, 64 and 67. Horton was on the NHL fist team All Star 3 times (1964, 68, 69). He was also selected to the NHL Second Team 3 times (1954, 63, 67). He appeared in seven NHL All Star Games. Between Feb 11, 1961 to Feb 4, 1968 Tim appeared in 486 consecutive regular season games on NHL record until it was broken recently Karlis Skrastins on Feb 8, 2007. It is still a record for the Toronto Maple Leaps. During his time with the Maple Leafs, Tim started several businesses. During his time with the Toronto Maple Leaps the team did well.

While playing with the Maple Leafs, Tim Horton helped out many businesses. Tim and his brother opened a restaurant - The Big Seven in North Bay Toronto. In 1961, Tim and his partner opened a Tim Horton Motors in Toronto. He tried to open a burger restaurant in Scarbough, at the same time, Tim open his first donut shop in 1964 at Hamilton, Ontario. In 1965 Tim expanded his donut chain into a multi million franchise system.

Early morning Feb 21, 1974 Tim Horton was on his way to Buffalo at 4.30 a.m. He lost control of speeding up on the highway near St. Catharines, he and his car rolled several times. In fact he did not wear his seat belt. Tim was dead after he arrived at the local hospital. Tim’s report was written Tim had drunk lots of Vodka and taken painkillers the day before.

In our opinion, we totally admire Tim Horton. He did a great effort in his hockey life and succeeds in many best businesses, Tim’s donut shop. He had a 1 month surprising fast recovery in his injuries. He did not scare and went back to the Maple Leafs’ team. However the source did not mention why he had drunk and taken painkillers for. I believe Tim Horton is still the greatest hockey player and a well businessman.

My Favourite Video Game - Anthony -

My Favourite Video Game
My favourite video game is “Initial D”. It is my favourite game because it is a role playing game. I like driving cars and you are able to drift in the game.
I like driving cars because many of my friends drive and it affects me. For example, my friends have Toyota Camry, Mazda RX-7, Honda Jazz, and Mercedes Benz. It makes me feel excited because I can drive at high-speed in the game. I like it because the car goes up to 180km/h. It makes my heart beat fast!
I used to read the Initial D comic book so I was interested when the game Initial D was out. The main characters are Takumi, a young smart boy who is a high school student. He obtained his driver’s license when he was eighteen. However, his father let Takumi drive crazily in the Akina Mountain. When Takumi was twelve years old, his father told him to use his car to deliver tofu up to the mountain. He drove to the top of the mountain every morning at 4:45 am. Takumi didn’t like to drive but he must listen to what his father said. Bunta was the greatest professional driver thirty years ago. Takashi is also an outstanding young driver. Even though Takashi was a well-known driver, his brother only passed the standard driver. Later they all joined into a car team – “Project D”. I play the driver. It is hard to count because there are too many characters. In the game you are able to drift. I like this feature because in real life we could not drive the same way as in the game. You are able to drift in manual car. For example, you might turn in the corner with high speed so you must be fast when you finished each corner.
I really like game – “Initial D” because it is playing a role. I like driving the car because it can drift.
Australia versus Hong Kong
There are some reasons why I like living in Australia instead of Hong Kong. The main reasons why I prefer Australia are the open space, the lack of pollution and the nice weather.
I like the open space in my house in Australia, it cost the price as buying an apartment in Hong Kong. The houses in Australia are spread out; in Hong Kong there are more apartments because there is less space. Hong Kong has few trees and gardens, except for the richest people. Roads in Australia are wider and cleaner than in Hong Kong because Hong Kong is small and densely populated.
There is less pollution in Australia because there are less people than in Hong Kong. There are trash cans available in Hong Kong, but people there do not use them and instead litter. In Australia annually, people pick-up garbage on the ground for charity. In Australia they recycle to save their trees, I realize people should not litter.
Other than lack of pollution, Australia has nicer weather; it is not as humid as Hong Kong. Hong Kong is very humid and it causes us to sweat when it is summer. In Hong Kong we have to shower often because of the dampness, we sometimes shower three times a day. In Australia we do not have to shower as often. In Hong Kong, people do not spend much time outside and some get sick because it is too hot.
These are three reasons why I prefer to live in Australia. The main reasons are the open space, the lack of pollution and nice weather.
Journals
On Wednesday and Thursday, our Internet connection was congested. My aunt had to have a mechanic fix the internet connection, so the children and I could not play online games. We couldn’t use our Internet phone to speak relatives in Hong Kong. It is an international phone, but the cost is in Hong Kong dollars because it is used to phone to Hong Kong.
Wednesday night, I couldn’t play online game because the network was congested. The game is “Conquer Online”, and I played it for a year. In the game, I chose a role player and play it is a Taoist. There are other characters such as an archer, trojan, and warrior. I didn’t play afterwards; I went down to the basement and continued watching my DVD. It is a device to watch movie. The name of movie is called “A Beauty of New Paradise”. There have four main characters: Le, a guy from Hong Kong. His pre-wife, Ms Sum is also from Hong Kong. They have been together in seven years. Le wants to open a HK style restaurant in Shanghai. It is likely to Hong Kong style milk tea, breakfast, lunch and dinner, etc. Le lost his big money from the bank and He’ll be unable to open his business because he’s broke. He’s been here for a couple of days and he wasn’t very familiar to this strange place. His friend, Long, who had stolen his money. However Le forgave him. So Le must work in the top Shanghai construction company. Long’s girlfriend, Lam, who loves his friend, Le because Lam and Le live together in a coincident moment, then play together, work together in the same company, sleep at the same house, and then they became loving each other step by step and also chathrough the wall. The wall between them was very thin. It was a great TV-series.
On Friday, I decided to visit IMAX because my aunt always tells me to go out and to visit more places. I wasn’t getting used to going out, but now I ‘m trying to go out. My aunt persuaded me to go to play sport or do jogging and told me that it was good for my health because I’m getting fat. It was so hard to lose my fitness. After school I went to visit IMAX and followed our school recreational activity teacher, Hanna. I had waited for the students in the student Lounge Room at 2:00 pm. In IMAX, it wasn’t very big and has a spacious wider screen. It was three Dimension graphic, and its graphic was very interesting. Its came out fairy close to my eyes with my 3D glasses on. The name of movie is called “Deep Sea”. It has mentioned fish were rival and always looks at each other for hunting, but sometimes they are not killing each other and they was very friendly because some fish was helping each other to clean their body and they both worth and benefit. There was very small and tiny fish welcome the huge sea turtle by kissing their shells and bodies. It was very boring and also made me sleeping.
Bibliography: A Famous Person
Zhuge Laing (Kong Ming) (AD 181-334)
Zhuge Liang was one of the greatest and famous strategists in the three kingdoms era. Most modern Chinese Know who he is, even though he died when he was middle-aged.
Zhuge was his family name. He was born in Yangdn County, Langya Commandery and it was in an ancient time. This county is now called – Yishi County, Shandong Province. He had no parents because his died when he was nine and his father died when he was twelve. He also had two brothers. He wanted revenge against Cao Cao for damaging his village. He also wanted to teach the next generation his skills. His goal was to become a strategist and to help a good leader or king.
His other name was “The Sleeping Dragon”. Later, he joined the team of Liu Bei and led the team. However, when he joined the team no one listened to him because they thought he was too young. When Zhuge grew older he became the Premier of Shu. One day, he defeated Cao Cao by using the “Fire-chained strategy”. It nearly killed him, too. After this happen everyone listened to Zhuge.
People Thought Zhuge was cautious, well-spoken, brave and a clam person. He didn’t have any ambition and was helpfully to give out strategies. He never deceived anybody. He’s not only using his magic and he also used his ability to predict the wealther and to tell fortunes.
He died from exhaustion. Before he died, he invented two powerful items. One was “The wooden ox and floating horse”, which contained daily rice, water and grass. The other was a hot air balloon called the “Kong Ming Lantern”. Because his team of Shu was going to separate, he made himself tired. Luckily, he got a fellow student, Jaing Wei, who was able to help him and learned from Zhuge. Zhuge died from the war, which was fought the Northern Cao Cao.
He always used his trademark feather fan when he entered the battlefield. He wrote books called “Thirty six strategies of Zhuge Liang” and “Mastering the Art of War”.
This why he is famous and he is also my favourite character. I have watched a film about him several times.

Shaolin Soccer - Anthony -

I watched an animated movie. It was called “Shaolin Soccer”. The main character is Stephen Chow, who is a Chinese-Hollywood movie star. I like him because he has shot many funny movies, which are unforgettable. “Shaolin Soccer” refers to Shaolin Kung Fu combined with playing soccer. At the beginning of the movie, Stephen was watching a wide-screen TV at mall. An old man walked, passed him and heard Stephen say, “Ball did not kick like that.” When he was saying this, he tried to do a proper kick. The old man watched intently and grabbed Stephen’s leg and examined it. He told Stephen, “Your leg is very strange and no one has a leg like this and it might be the best one in the world,” Stephen had a business card and handed it to the old man politely. However, the old man put the card into his can of coke and threw it at Stephen. Before this can of coke reached the ground, Stephen suddenly thought back “the kick”. He kicked the can smoothly into the sky.
Both went away. Stephen walked home slowly and thoughtfully. A rubber removal man asked Stephen to help him to life an old refrigerator, but Stephen did not lift it. Instead, he kicked the fridge with his right foot easily. He was confused and thankful to him. Stephen is the fifth member in his Shaolin team. His master died and Stephen wanted Shaolin Kung Fu to become widespread. However, he did not succeed.
On the next day, Stephen met the first member of his team. He tried to tell him how to perform Kung Fu on anyone, but it did not work. This makes a bad thing happen. A group of gangsters were going to fight him. Stephen was so angry and from out of nowhere a soccer ball dropped in font of him. Stephen used his Kung Fu on the soccer ball first and then kicked it towards one of the gang’s members. In fact, he only used ten percent of his energy but the person he kicked was thrown like a plane and dropped painfully. This was the beginning of Shaolin Kung-FU.

My Japan - Anthony

The most enjoyable experience I ever had was when I was in the middle region of Japan. I went to Disneyland with my dad. Actually, he paid all the fees. We walked together and took a small boat ride. This ride was called “Encounter Venice” which is in Italy. The staff dressed as boat workers. They moved the boat by hand. The décor was the same as in Venice. It was visually appealing and I can still remember it. There were tons of visitors taking photos and chatting all around I was lost and it was nearly dark. My dad I followed a path to Aladdin to see a drama. It was large and it had a big stage. An enormous curtain was closed before the drama began. I sat quietly and looked much but this was a narrator. It was very touching was teased badly. After the drama, we took a roller coaster ride, it was so much fun. The train climbed up to the eightieth floor and shot down rapidly. I was very shocked and I could not eat anything except candies. When the night firework appeared, my attitude changed. This firework show is performed sometimes. Some other times, it does not happen. We were very lucky to see it. In the dark sky, we could see five, six, seven, eight… different coloured lights and finally planes were flying around and then dropped a cascade of water towards the ground. The water looked like a huge water fall.

Anthony => watches ad on TV <= Anthony

People watch advertisements on TV, magazines or on the news. Some advertisements provide positive messages to the audience. However, others offer rude and negative advertising. In my opinion, I think advertising influences people's behaviour in a negative way. I have two reasons.

First, magazine advertising is very popular. It contains pictures and text. The words are often misleading and confusing, however. For example, the Nike advertisement's slogan is "Just Do it". What if a dying person was standing on the top of a building and saw the signs "Just Do it". If he followed Nike's advice, he would have jumped and died.

Another reason I believe advertising is detrimental is that advertising sometimes provides a bad example to the viewing audience. Take television advertising for instance. In one advertisement a seller promotes a shampoo product. To accomplish this, they employ a sexy naked woman taking off her clothing and standing on top of the car in a parking lot. She also takes a shower using the wipe on the ceiling. This inappropriate for children, so this advertising is blocked after three days.

To sum up, advertising is bad for people by illustrating an unclothed girl and including misleading statements that could prove dangerous. Personally, I think advertising does influence people’s actions. It is a con game.

Anthony - Leisure Time

Some people like to spend their leisure time doing activities with a lot of people. Others prefer to spend their free-time in quiet ways by themselves or with one other person. Personally, I am an independent person, but I do not mean I earn my own money or support myself. I mean that I like to be alone when I do leisure activities.

The first reason is I would like to choose a place which is very quiet and not very noisy, for example, my personal room. I play computer games during my free time. If I want someone to play with, I can go online and search for players online. They do not know who I am and I don’t either. Therefore, they can not disturb me.

The second reason is that I will never share things. In other words, I mean I do care for germs from people. I reality, I am a clean person. I clean my room and make it very tidy. When I do activities in my room, I feel very comfortable and fresh.

In summary, I prefer choosing a quiet place to relax during my free time and not sharing things with others; therefore, I would rather play on my own because it makes me secure.

Anthony - Journal

On Saturday, as usual, I went out with my friends, Joe, and Sandra to Richmond. We made a date at Main-Street skytrain station. I went there earlier and I chose a seat that was facing the direction the skytrain comes. It was fifteen minutes before our meeting time. I then took out my favourite PSP to play. PSP refers to Playstation Portable. The area where I was sitting was very cold. While I was in the middle of playing my PSP game, my friends come. We took the skytrain to Burand station and then took the 98 B line to Richmond. It took us almost an hour to get to the destination. We were going to the KTV site to sing karaoke. As we arrived, we paced up the stairs to the first floor. The staff in KTV brought us to a dark room. In fact, this room is very special. You are allowed to switch the light brighter or darker. In the room, there is a sofa which can accommodate three people. There was something missing in the dark room. It was a small short sofa like a box. I asked the staff member politely to offer me a short sofa. One important thing in the singing room is when you are singing. The microphone volume can not be feedback coming out of the two speakers. After 7 hours, I exited the KTV site and walked to one of the Chinese Hot Pot restaurants. My friends were very hungry because they did not eat lunch before they saw me. We had gone many times to many Chinese type Hot pot venues. In this place, there were small seats, a table, and not enough room for us. However, this restaurant is large and has a set table. In other words, I have an individual table and an oven-table. At night, the price for an adult is about 17 dollars not including TAX and a child is 14-15 dollars. (Not very sure) Not only do you have to pay 17 dollars per person but you must pay for a specific favor of Hot Pot which is appropriately 6-10 dollars. I was very happy because I ate a lot and left with a full stomach.

Mohammed TV Professor

The professor talks about academic experts who exposed them selves on TV. What she explains contradicts the points made in the reading.
First, the professor says that the experts appear on TV to entertain not to educate which causes people not to take them seriously, this affects his credibility. On the other hand, according to reading the experts have a chance to talk to a wider audience outside of campus which enhances his credibility.
Second, the speaker states that the university will suffer from the time that expert wastes to prepare themselves to appear on TV. They need to do a lot of preparation ,think about what to present and more instead of doing research and attending classes. However ,according to the reading the university will gain a good reputation and people will think more highly of the university when they see the professor. That will lead to more donations for the university.
Third, the lecturer points out that no body will benefit from an expert who appears on TV. Usually TV networks don’t want a serious lecture on the screen. In contrast the reading makes it clear that the public will gain from learning a new subject from an authority.
In conclusion, according to the lecturer we can see that a professor will not give a serious lecture, will waste his important time, and will not benefit the public. All these points directly contradict the reading.

TV essay(Alex)

The professor talks about appearances on television by university professors. She mainly explains the negative aspects of television lectures, which provides an opposing view to information stated in the reading.
First, the professor mentions that when the university professors do their job on TV, their reputation among their colleagues can suffer. Their colleagues might think that these kinds of professors are not serious about their fields of study. However, according to the reading, the professor who teaches their theory on TV will be able to obtain an enhanced reputation due to the large number of people who watch TV.
Second, the speaker states that participating on TV programs takes time away from a professor’s university duties. For example, professors have to figure it out how to give his opinions in an entertaining manner to the audients on TV instead of spending time focusing on their students. Therefore, the universities to which the professors belong have disadvantages. On the other hand, according to the reading, the university benefits from professors doing TV spots because they improve the university’s reputation.
Third, the lecturer points out that people who watch TV at dinnertime don’t want to watch serious programs at all. In addition, these programs are similar to a reporter’s summary. However, according to the reading, the public benefits from what professors say on TV.
The three main points of the listening lecture are that television appearances will damage a professor’s reputation, the university reputation and will not assist the public in any real manner. These main points are totally opposite those presented in the reading.

Mohammed Goals

Life depends on dreams and goals. A person should have goals to achieve in his life. While everyone will have different aims, these goals provide a person with a reason for living. There are two main goals that I want to achieve in my life: getting a masters degree in business and a proper job.

The first goal that I want to achieve is to get a masters degree in business. In today’s world it is not easy to attain a suitable job because of the competition. Therefore a person needs to have a high level of education. I am planning to take a masters degree in a university that uses English as the main language. For that reason, I have to achieve an acceptable score on the TOFEL exam. After that I will get in to university.

My second goal is to have an appropriate job. It is important to have a job that helps you with your needs in life. Getting a job that satisfies you is not an easy process. Therefore, after I get my masters degree, I am planning to go back home and start to search for a job that suits me. I will start to search on the Internet and in the newspaper. Moreover, I will start to go to the companies that I think they have a job that will require my qualifications. Then, when I find the jobs that I am looking for, I will pick the best one of them.
In conclusion, my two main goals in life are to get a masters degree in business and get a proper job. I will try to apply the necessary efforts that allow me to achieve my goals. In addition, I will try to use all the help that I can get from the people around me. I hope that I can achieve my dreams and get the best out of my life.

Professors on TV JOYCE

The professor discusses the event of professors appearing on TV, which she feels is not proper. The reading material offers the opposite opinion.
In the first place, the professor mentions that when professors appear on TV, this is not good for their reputation or social status. They are supposed to be serious academic experts. Usually, TV programs are just for entertainment, not education. Therefore, if they entertain, their reputations could suffer. As a result, they could not be able to get enough money for their future research.
In the second place, the professor states that when professors give lectures on television, this is just a waste of time. For instance, they have to prepare their talk and get made up for the camera. As a result, professors do not have enough time to talk with students or teach them. Finally they do not have time do their research. This is not good for students or the university. In fact the students and overall university standards could be jeopardized. In contrast, the author in the reading passage thinks that universities can gain benefits from academics participating in TV shows. The reading states that after a professor appears on TV everyone will know the university and it will become famous. In fact people may donate money to the university.
Last but not least, the professor points out that the public won't get any benefit either. Generally, after one day working, people are exhausted. They like watching interesting programs. Likewise, the TV net wok does not want an academic lecture on their program. They just need a brief introduction or historical background. A reporter can do this just as he or she researches it beforehand.

TV - by Eun Jin

The professor discusses the disadvantages of academic experts appearing on television. In contrast, the reading has opposite views and outlines the advantages of professors participating on TV shows.

First, the professor mentions that being on TV damaged professors' reputations because other professors think that the experts appearing on TV are not serious about their field but instead are just focusing on entertainment. Therefore, they will likely lose opportunities such as being invited to conference. In contrast, the reading claims that scholars are able to acquire enhanced reputations due to their participation on TV programs. Furthermore, they can reach broader audiences and their significance as a specialist will be enhanced.

Second, the lecturer points out that appearing on TV takes extra time. For example, before the broadcast, professors need to research information and even get made up to look good whereas instead they are focusing on teaching . Thus, the university loses out. However, according to the reading, by exposing professors to a wider audience, the university can obtain financial support such as donation or more applications from prospective students.

Third, the speaker states that the public does not want to know about serious academic information. The knowledge that they want to know is material such as a brief introduction about current events or background history. However, the reading makes it clear that the public can obtain real academic understanding and insight from experts.

TV (integrated writing) -Jenny

The professor discusses the phenomenon of academic experts appearing on television. The issues she explains cast serious doubt on the points made in the reading.

First, the professor discusses that participating in TV shows does not benefit a professor because he/she can appear as an entertainer, and will not be invited to meetings to discuss academic work. Moreover, the professor would not get money on his/her research.
On the other hand, according to reading, a professor profits from coming out on TV because he/she gets evaluated as a powerful person in his/her academic area and the professor's concept can be delivered to a considerable people outside of campus.

Second, the speaker states that appearing on TV requires time. Professors have to prepare what to say and what to wear on TV. This takes time away from being on campus with students or handling school business. However, according to the reading, Professors on TV benefit the university because of the positive publicity.
Third, the lecture points out that the public does not benefit because they do not want to watch serious lectures. In contrast the reading makes it clear that public can profit because of being able to learn from a person with special knowledge like a professor.

TV by Joe

The professor discuss the question about benefits regarding academic experts appearing on television. She hold the opposite attitude expressed in the reading.
First, the professor mentions that there is no benefit to the professors who were appearing on television, because people would think that they were not serious scholars. people may think these experts entertain rather than educate. Therefore, they will not have the chance to be invited to conferences to discuss academic work. Then, they would not get money to continue their research. On the other hand, the reading material shows that professor gains a lot from participating in television. The writer think that experts can get reputations as authorities in academic fields, because they have large audience.
Second, the speaker states that appearing on television takes time away from the campus work and research activities. This would result in many problems for university when professors are in the television studio. For instance, they would have to prepare to attend the TV show, and they would not have time to do their research, or be with students. However, according to the reading, there are many benefits for university. Professors appear on television is positive publicity: it can improve the university’s reputation. As a result, university can get more donations and more students.
Third, the professor mentions that experts appearing on television is no benefit to the public. People are interested in background history or a brief introduction: they don’t wont to see a serious topic after dinner. By contrast, the reading makes it clear that the public gains from experts appearing on TV. The writer thinks that gives more opportunities for the public to learn from experts, it can expose them to topic they may not have considered otherwise.

About Me!!!

Hi everyone. My name is Incheol-Song and I’m from South Korea. I was born in Deajeon, which is two hours away from Seoul by train. However, my university is in Seoul. I moved there to go to my university. I was living in an apartment near my University before I came here. This area in which I was living, was very nice because of the neighbors. I had many friends who are going to same university. Therefore, I used to play soccer, which is my favorite sport, with them. I am interested in other kinds of sports as well, such as swimming, hiking and tennis. When I was on school vacation, I used to enjoy these sports with friends at least three times a week. I think that having sports as hobbies is not only good for spending time with friends but also valuable way to maintain my health.
At my university, I’m studying Economics and Chinese as a double major. It is true that studying two majors is not easy; however, it will help me achieve my goals in the future. I am going to China to study Chinese after I get good TOEFL marks here. Probably, the time I will be leaving here will be in February of this year. I hope you guys achieve your goals in the near future and go back home as well.

About Myself

My name is Bomi Noh and my English name is Jenny. I'm from South Korea.
I graduated from university majoring in Fine Arts. That major was a fantastic experience in my life for a few reasons. Firstly, doing activities in art made me feel unprecedented contentment in my life. I experienced a state of being with freedom in my way of thinking between the real world and the imagination on world. I had a hard time completing my works but when I did, and I felt a record accomplishment afterwards. Secondly, the period of being in art helped me understand other people better. When I was in third year of university, I started producing videos related to Modern Arts and got a chance to make documentaries about people. I met a lot of different individually in the process. I heard about their lives, their suffering and their ways of conquering their hardships. These experiences had a huge influence on me and got me to change my attitude from passive to more positive in terms of understanding other people. After graduating, I worked in an art gallery as a curator for a year, and in between I continued my art work. I had three art exhibitions and my works got favorable criticism by art critics. I was so happy that I felt this time was the high point of my life. I also liked studying English. Initially, I studied English to graduate from my university. However, I found I really enjoyed English not only to get the required score, but also as a language itself. The desire for learning English surged through me and I decided to study English more in depth. I got a job 2 years ago as an English teacher. While teaching, I was satisfied with my work because I could not only study English, but also could have fun with my students all the time. In addition, I really loved spending time preparing for my classes and felt happy that I could help my students improve their English more. Teaching English and studying English are somewhat different, but I felt I needed to improve my English so that I could teach English to students in the right way. Therefore, I decided to come to Canada to learn more. As for my free time activities, I enjoy doing exercise, especially, I like going to the gym where I can work out and jog. I feel better afterwards and it must be good for my health and studies. Sometimes, I draw things like landscapes or portraits. These activities also make me happy. In the future, whatever I do, whatever I think, I hope I am satisfied with myself and my career. That will be happen, for sure!

Hi people:
My name is Wang Xi. You can call me Joyce. I come from Qingdao which is a very beautiful seaside city located in the east of China. I studied in Beijing for four years. My major is Economics. I find it is a very interesting subject. I decided to study overseas after graduating.
Vancouver is a very beautiful city that I like very much. There are a lot of precious memories for me. I like watching comedy movies, listening music, swimming, eating delicious food.
When I was young, I was really afraid of water. My father encouraged me to try walking in water and he taught me how to swim. Gradually I fell in love with this sport.
Now I want to continue studying my major Economics in Master degree, but first I have to get enough high marks in a language test. That is why I chose to study TOEFL. Although it is a painstaking task, I believe I can overcome my language difficulties; furthermore, we now have an excellent and humorous TOEFL teacher.

Introduction

Hi! My name is Renee, Korean.

Now I am studying TOEFL in Susan’s class. Although I have only been studying TOEFL in the class for a week, I think it is a great choice to study TOEFL. I believe that studying TOEFL is helpful in improving my English skills.

My most memorable time in Canada was traveling to the east of Canada alone. I visited to Toronto and Montréal. Toronto is a very big city just like Seoul, but Montreal is a very quiet city. During my travels, I met some Canadians who were really kind and friendly. When I lost my way, some of them took me to the place I wanted to go even if their destination was in the opposite direction. If I have free time, I would like to travel to other cities in Canada.

Enjoy studying English, and enjoy your life in Canada...^^

Aziz's Goals

Everyone has goals to achieve in their future, and that’s what I am thinking about these days. The reason that I am doing this is because I want to be successful in my life. I have two basic goals.

First, my professional goals in life are to find a good job that makes me happy, and provides enough money for me to support my family, and help people. I want to be an executive manager of a big company, so I am trying to get a good TOEFL score to enter university, and study business administration. This profession attracts me because I would like to make a lot of money, in addition; I would be following in my fathers footsteps. He has taught me a lot of business skills, and I want to experience the reality for myself.

Another aim is that I want to get married to a beautiful woman, and to have kids so that I can share everything in my life with them, for example we can eat, sleep, and travel together.
Therefore; I will feel the full life with them because the family is something very important in life.
I want to be an executive manager of a big company so I can get enough money to feed my family. to achieve this goals I have to get good marks in TOEFL.secondly, I want to have a good family so I can spend time with people who are close to me, my life and if I work hard it will happen.

Anthony's GOALs

Everyone should have one or two goals in their minds. To people, personal objectives help to provide both motivation and a meaningful life. This is why, aims are very essential. In my view, my two key goals are to be like my father, and earn my own money.

First, to be like my father I need to copy his behaviour. He is a responsible, reliable, and supportiVE person. Although he is a busy businessman, he is able to arrange his time to take care of me, like my mother does. I have to focus on his actions. I will do the same things to my future children, for example, gain an abundant knowledge. I must work very hard to follow in my father’s footsteps. I also need to listen to what he tells me and copy his every word.

Another goal is to earn my own money and try not to use my father’s or mother’s money. If I do so, this means that I am not grown up. At first, I have to get several flexible part-time jobs such as work at McDonalds, or in telecommunications. Then, I need to support myself individually, by putting money in the bank and paying my rent. When I am working, I need to see colleagues’ faces and listen to what they tell me. Mostly, people will surrender in this case, however, to be successful I have to do this very well. Telling myself not to be lazy and pushing myself forward and talking less are all important. Eventually, after making enough money I can invest the capital into a business and earn a large amount of money.

In conclusion, my two greatest purposes in life are to be similar to my father and to be financially independent. Both goals will permit me to live well. Therefore, I promise that I will try my best to achieve them so that I may be successful in my life.

My Goals -Jenny

The important thing when talking about a person’s purpose for the future is to consider the basic factors in his or her life. Basic elements such as food, shelter, clothing, or health in people’s lives are far more important than other aspects such as an expensive car or luxury items. I think that basic are like health and money are essential to a fulfilling life. Therefore, I believe that my ambitions are to manage my health and money well.

My first aim for the future is to keep healthy during life because I think health is the most important and basic element approach to being happy. For example, if a family member has cancer, all members of the family will not be happy or joyful including the person who is will. Sickness never lets people feel blessed and delighted. Therefore, health management is the most essential element in remaining cheerful. In my case, I try to do exercise at least every other day for my health. Besides, I usually go shopping and buy fresh food because eating fresh vegetables is also good for my health. Moreover, taking a rest is a effective way to make our busy body calm down, which can help us concentrate on work or study more when we come back to our daily routines. As long as I put those habits into practice, I can maintain my body in good condition as well as project wholesome appearance. Therefore, I think health is my primary purpose in life.

Another ambition I have is making as much money as possible before retiring because I need money for many aspects of life. In current society, I think money is as valuable and useful as health because we can exchange money with necessities such as food, clothing or shelter. Also, it can be an important factor in health management. In addition, I need to use my money sparingly in case I cannot support myself someday. For instance, if I lost my job and I do not have enough money even to provide the living necessities, my life will be difficult. Furthermore, I cannot maintain my social relationships without money and I cannot get any education without it. Therefore, I think money is highly important.

In conclusion, keeping healthy and saving money are my objectives in life. The two of them are also related to each other because money is the best medium to support a healthy life. Also, healthy habits can help me maintain good relationships and also impact on making money in a positive way. Therefore, I strongly believe the two aims, health and money are key to my life.

My Goals(Alex Song)

When people have their aims, they are motivated to do their best. Therefore, it is a good idea to create personal ambitions to live life fully. Personally, I prefer to make a yearly plan to achieve my dreams. Now, I have two goals, which are becoming a banker and getting into a good business school. There are several reasons why I want to achieve these goals in the future.

First my goal is to get a good job in the near future. I would like to be a banker in a global bank. However, it is very difficult to get a good job in Korea these days. Therefore, it is necessary to do my best to prepare qualifications that a bank requires. For example, I need to study hard in my university to get good marks. The good marks can show the bank that I’m serious and hard working. However, this is not only requirement that I need to prepare. In order to work for a global bank, speaking English is a basic skill to communicate with people from different countries. To learn English speaking, I’m studying English in Canada. This is very good way to learn English in a short period of time.

Second my dream is to study at a business school in America. There are a lot of business schools, which provide a good educational background in the US. Seventy percent of good business schools are in America. In addition, if I study in the States, I can also meet many people who have more varied backgrounds than if I study in Korea. Studying with them can be a very interesting experience because of their different modes of thinking and cultures.

Being actively involved in the accomplishment of my dream is not easy; however, this will allow me great achievements in the future. When I visualize becoming a banker and studying at the business school, I feel that I can do whatever it takes to achieve those purposes. Having a couple of ambitions is provides the necessary motivation to live a life close to my ideals.

My goals!

These days people are exposed to a greater variety of ideas that can attract their attention than in the past. Because of this, we have a lot of choices regarding future goals. Through many experiences, I have come to have two objectives I want to achieve.
Being a psychologist is one of my main dreams. In tenth grade, I read an interesting book on the subconscious part of human behaviour by chance. At that time, I could not stop reading the book until it was finished. This motivated me to keep having concerns about psychology. After reading a lot of books related to psychology, I desired to help people who were in trouble with psychological problems as a professional person. In order to achieve this goal, I will make a steady effort to get a master’s degree abroad. After that, I will establish an organization to help these people.
Another aspiration is to learn an instrument, especially base guitar. In my opinion, sharing music is the best way to spend free time. I had a good experiences when I was in high school. I was a member of an orchestra as a cellist. Whenever playing the cello with my friends who were playing other instruments such as violin or clarinet, I was full of happiness and also got self-satisfaction. The reason why I long to learn base guitar is that I am interested in jazz and above all I can play cello; this means it is easy to learn base guitar for me because cello and base guitar are related. I am able to learn this instrument easily as I was taught how to play cello.
To be a psychologist and to learn how to play the base guitar are my main aims that I wish to attain in my life. I make the best out of my opportunities that I can get inside and outside of school. I will try my hardest to achieve my goals.

My Goals (by Joe)

Most people have some main goals, such as finding a well paid job, having a loving family and keeping healthy. In my view, family and health are the most important aims, so they are my major objectives for next five years.
In the first place, family is one of the most important aspects of life for most people, including me. It is hard to live alone for a long time, especially, when people get old. People need to share life with someone else. However, getting married and having children is my first main aim for the next five years. Firstly, I have to find a woman who is compatible with me, and then get married. After that, if the situation allows, we will have children.
Apart from family, I suppose health is my second chief aspiration, because if you do not have health everything in your life has no meaning. For instance, we can imagine health as the number one, and your worth as many zeros. No matter how many zeros that you have, if health has gone, everything is zero. On the other hand, if you are healthy you worth becomes one plus many zeros, which translates into a fulfilling life. For the next five years I want to be a healthy person, so I have to keep doing exercise every day.
In conclusion, important goals for me are to have a loving family and keep healthy. If I can do, I will feel gratified, and my life will be meaningful. Therefore, I have to insist on it and achieve it.

My Goals

Nowadays, many people are pursuing their goals and dreams, so am I. I had many dreams, when I was young. Now I have two relevant goals. One is to have a good job; another is to travel around the world.
In my opinion, to get a suitable job is one of the most important things in my life. If I can get my ideal job, my life will be wonderful. My ideal job is to be an Economics teacher. That is why I chose Economics as my major when I was in university. My study area was international economy and trade. I find it is very interesting; I can use what I learned to predict market changes. That is amazing. When I did a presentation for my classmates and professor, I won praise. I found I have a talent for teaching and speaking. However, to be a teacher is not an easy thing, especially an Economics teacher. I have to learn the skill of teaching; furthermore, I have to expand my knowledge of Economics.
Another aim is to travel around the world. When I was an adolescent, I dreamed that one day I could travel around the world by ship. I like reading tourism books. When I read one, I am really excited. I want to go to Maldives, to see the awesome seashore and beautiful beaches, and to have experience about scuba diving; I want to go to Canada, to see the adorable polar bears and the great Niagara Falls. Traveling not only provides relaxation, but also broadens our experience and proliferates our knowledge.
To sum up, getting an ideal job and traveling around the world are important aims and dreams for me. I will do my best to achieve my goals, because it can make a difference in my life and make me feel wonderful.

My goals

People have their own dreams in their minds. Although individuals have different aspirations, they work hard to accomplish their aims. Like others, I have my own dreams which are to buy a house and a car within two to five years.
My first dream is to buy a car within two years. Despite the fact that Vancouver has a convenient public transportation system, it is stressful to search bus schedules, and look for bus routes when I go somewhere. Also, in order to take a bus or sky train, I have to waste time on the roads to get to the bus stops, and sky-train stations. However, I can go anywhere at anytime if I have my own car. I do not need to look for bus schedules, and I can readily go some places where there are not working public transportation systems. For these reasons, I would like to buy a car. Although I need to get a job to pay the upkeep of the car, such as insurance, and gas, I can accomplish my aim if I work hard.
Another purpose is to buy a house within four years. In Vancouver, apartment rental fees are very expensive. Also, I cannot decorate my rented apartment without a notice to the owner or manager of the apartment; for example, I can’t change the color on the walls, and I can’t hammer any nails into the walls. Because of these reasons, my second aim is to buy a house in Vancouver. I can decorate my house however I want and I do not need to act according to the landlord’s policy. However, in order to buy my own house, I first need to get a high income job in Vancouver, and I have to work hard to save money.
In brief, my two major aims are to buy my own car, and house. These two goals encourage me to work hard. These aims are currently beyond my reach, but I believe that I can accomplish my goals in five years.
